VARIETY CRUISES LAUNCHES ANTIQUITY GREECE ADVENTURE
Variety Cruises' new Antiquity to Byzantium cruise transports today's travelers back to the glory of gladiators, gods and Olympians of Ancient Greece and the powerful dynasty of the Byzantine Empire. The seven-night round-trip cruise will sail between November 4, 2011 and April 13, 2012. Regular fares begin at an attractive $1,071 per person, per week. The cruise is hosted by an eminent scholar who will conduct lectures on a daily basis and accompany passengers during history-filled excursions.
Variety Cruises' Antiquity to Byzantium cruise embarks in Athens and travels first to the treasures of Greece's Ancient age. Historic sites include the Amphitheater of Epidaurus, Agamemnon's Royal palace, ancient tombs at Mycenae, Ancient Olympia and the Oracle Temple of Delphi. From the Byzantine period, travelers explore the ruined monastic town of Mystra and the walled coastal village of Monemvassia, with excursions to the Dirou caves and Navarino Bay, where a naval battle changed the course of European history.
Day 1: Marina Zea, Athens. Embarkation and sail to Palaia (old) Epidaurus
Day 2: Palaia Epidaurus or Ancient Epidaurus is reputed to be the birthplace of Apollo’s son Asclepius and is famous for its theatre.

Day 4: Gythion. Visit to Mani peninsula, Cape Tenaro and the spectacular Dirou Caves with their stalactites and stalagmites.
Day 5: Pylos. The crucial naval battle that led to the independence of Greece took place in this picture-perfect seaside town on the southwest corner of the Peloponnese.
Day 6: Katakolon. Day trip to Olympia, revered as the birthplace of the Olympic Games and was the greatest PanHellenic sanctuary for the worship of Zeus.
