Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1(Saturday): Lisbon – Portimao, Portugal

Meeting at 1 pm at Lisbon Hotel (name to be advised) and escorted bus transfer to Portimao to embark your ship. We arrive in Portimao at approximately 4 pm. Dinner on board. 

Day 2(Sunday): Portimao, Portugal

Our half day excursion will take us to Silves, largely destroyed by a 17th century earthquake. Marvel at the centuries-old Moorish castle complex with an underground water reservoir, a 13th Century Cathedral built by Alfonso X of Castile on the site of a former Mosque and a fine strong 15th century bridge over the Rio Arade. During your visit to Silves, you'll also have time to browse the historic exhibits at the Museu Arqueológico.  We leave Silves visit and travel into the Serra de Monchique to reach the picturesque city of Monchique nested between two hills. The city retains its 16th century charm and you will walk through its cobbled streets with small doorways housing various artisan trades. There is a 17th~Century Franciscan monastery overlooking the town and a 16th Century Parish Church decorated with hand-crafted blue ceramic tiles. We return to Portimao for a late lunch. Afternoon optional walking excursion in Portimao town or time free for shopping for bathing at the local beach. Overnight at sea to Seville.

Day 3(Monday): Seville, Spain

Morning sailing up the Guadalkivir river and midday arrival. Afternoon optional excursion in Seville, one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, where Moorish and Spanish art and culture have left their mark. Our optional excursion will bring you to the Cathedral, the Alcazar Palace and its Andalusian gardens, the Maria Luisa Park and the quaint and elegant district of Santa Cruz. Overnight in port.

Day 4(Tuesday): Seville – Jerez de la Frontera - Cadiz, Spain

Morning optional excursion in Seville. Afternoon optional excursion by bus to Jerez de la Frontera, famous for its wines, horse breeding and flamenco. Your tour will enable you to see the Alcazar, the cathedral and a “ganadería”, where bulls are raised to take part in bull fighting, very much part of Spanish culture. (The ship departs with passengers not participating in the excursions at 8:30 to reach Cadiz). Guests rejoin the ship in Cadiz in the evening. Late night sailing to Tangiers.

Day 5(Wednesday): Tangiers, Morocco - Gibraltar, UK

Morning arrival in Tangiers. Half day optional city excursion or morning at leisure. Noon sailing to Gibraltar and midday arrival. Afternoon optional excursion in the “Rock”. We reach the Cable Car Base Station, which will take us to the Top Station perched on the summit of Gibraltar for a breathtaking view as you are suspended in mid-air. At the Top Station your guide will show you around the geography of this British colony. Then you will travel to the Middle Station and the sanctuary of Gibraltar’s older inhabitants, the Barbary Apes, roaming free around this station. Return to your coach for a 5-minute drive to Princess Caroline’s Battery and the entrance to the Great Siege Tunnels, a system of tunnels carved out of solid limestone. Proceed to the Gibraltar Museum with its enormous amount of artifacts on display. Overnight in port. 

Day 6(Thursday): Gibraltar, UK - Porto Banus, Spain

Early morning sailing to Porto Banus.  Arrival in Porto Banus and swimstop at anchor. After lunch we enjoy an optional excursion to Ronda, 50 km inland a city which retains much of its historic charm, particularly its old town and the nearby 18th century Puente Nuevo. Ronda is also famous as the birthplace of modern bullfighting, today glimpsed once a year at the spectacular Feria Goyesca. Plaza de Toros is now a museum, and visitors can stroll out into the arena. Our optional excursion will include visits to the  an elegant cloistered 16th century convent and old Ronda, La Ciudad, with its cobbled streets hemmed by handsome town mansions, some still occupied by Ronda's titled families such as the Casa de Don Bosco. We will walk to the leafy Plaza Duquesa de Parcent, which boasts a convent, two churches, including the toy town bell tower of the Iglesia Santa Maria de Mayor.  The ship will sail to Malaga at 3 pm and guests participating in the excursion will rejoin the ship in Malaga. Late night arrival in Malaga. Overnight in port.

Day 7(Friday): Malaga - Granada, Spain

Optional full day excursion to Granada, one of the most fascinating cities in Europe and the last Muslim city to fall to the Christians in 1492. We will visit one of the most brilliant jewels of universal architecture is the Alhambra, a series of palaces and gardens built under the Nazari Dynasty in the 14th C. We will also visit the Cathedral with its Royal Chapel where Isabel and Ferdinand lie buried, the Monastery of La Cartuja and many churches built by Moorish craftsmen after the Reconquest, in Granada's unique "mudéjar" style.  Overnight in port. 

Day 8(Saturday): Malaga, Spain

Disembarkation 9 am.

We recently did the Garden of Eden cruise around the Seychelles on the Pegasus sailing on 16th April. The fact that there were only 12 passengers instead of a maximum of 44 meant we were treated like royalty. Good mix of Brits and continentals and everyone got on well. We had a class A cabin which was comfortable and a reasonable size but as this is not the most modern ship the bathroom is quite small and the fittings are a little dated. The food however was very good throughout with decent choice and the fresh fish served was excellent. The staff were very professional and friendly and nothing was ever too much trouble, so a big credit to the captain and Markos who was in charge of Hotel operations. Enjoyed the excursions to Curieuse, Cousin and Aride islands particularly,which are basically nature reserves with no other facilities .For those interested in the natural world and ornithology in particular then these are excellent excursions and the landings on small boats through big surf waves was all part of the fun. The optional excursion to Vallee de Mai on Praslin was enjoyable and informative. There were several excellent snorkelling trips using the zodiacs and the variety of fish and marine life was pretty good and a lot of new coral growth was particularly evident! So to summarise, thoroughly enjoyed the cruise which certainly exceeded our expectations. As this was our first cruise with Variety it will almost certainly not be our last since we particularly enjoy small ship cruising and they have an interesting schedule of similar cruises!
Recently (April 2016) cruise in the Seychelles which was magnificent. Everything you want from a good holiday, plenty to see, beautiful locations and beaches, fauna and flora. The boat Pegosos was wonderful, very comfortable and a fabulous crew that looked after everything. It truly is a luxury experience. Other guests were a lot of fun and the ship is small enough to make it feel like a private charter. The Excursion guide was very good and made sure we didn't miss anything. So happy to see the Tortoises on some of the Island stops, a very good way to see the Seychelles -- highly recommended and very good value. Food was excellent and lovely BBQs on the beach. Take my advice and go!
Pegus Seychelles. We had a fantastic holiday and a big thank you to Variety Cruises. We found all the staff without exception very helpful ,accommodating, entertaining and great fun which made the experience all the more enjoyable. Would definitely recommend this holiday.
