Technical Supervisor

POSITION: TECHNICAL SUPERVISOR
REPORTING TO: CHIEF MARINE OFFICER
LOCATION: Athens, Greece Headquarters

DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Monitoring of upcoming class/flag regulations
  • Providing technical advice to the company’s management whenever necessary
  • Ensuring the staffing of the technical department with appropriately trained staff
  • Advises the DPA on issues related to safety and environmental protection
  • Continuous information on the condition of the ships, maintenance condition, required repairs and controls fuel quality
  • Ensuring the good operational condition of the ships and within their technical capabilities
  • Monitoring of the actual requirements for each ship regarding its maintenance and general condition
  • Cooperation with the operations department in order to achieve the optimal performance of each ship consistently in its commercial obligations
  • Planning the visits of the Port Engineers to the ships in order to verify compliance with safety and environmental protection issues
  • Ensuring proper management of deck and engine room spare parts and supplies and assisting with budget control for each ship
  • Preparation of reports including comments on the condition of the ship and its equipment as well as the performance of the engine crew
  • Develops problem solving methodology and procedures
  • Develops effective methods for fault repair and evaluates subcontractors
  • Monitors the renewal of the ship’s Certificates
  • Ensures that operating records of all ship-related instruments and equipment are kept by port engineers
  • Preparation of specifications for upcoming repairs and drydocking
  • Report to DPA issues that deviate from the procedures as defined by the SMS
  • Evaluate the results of Port state Control inspections
  • Controls technical’s department budget and communicates the results to the Chief Marine Officer

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Naval architecture or Marine Engineer license
  • 4 years of previous experience in shipping technical department
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language written and verbal
  • Ability to use modern computer software

Chief Marine Operations Officer

DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Strategic Planning. Developing and implementing strategic plans for marine operations, including setting goals and objectives, formulating policies, and establishing performance metrics.
  • Regulatory Compliance. Ensuring compliance with applicable maritime laws, regulations, and industry standards. This includes staying updated on changes in regulations and implementing necessary measures to maintain compliance.
  • Safety and Risk Management. Promoting and enforcing a culture of safety throughout the organization. Identifying potential risks and implementing measures to mitigate them, such as conducting risk assessments, implementing safety protocols, and overseeing emergency response procedures.
  • Fleet Management. Managing the organization’s fleet of vessels, including maintenance, repairs, and upgrades. Coordinating with relevant departments or external vendors to ensure proper maintenance schedules are followed and that vessels are in compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Operational Efficiency. Optimizing the efficiency and effectiveness of marine operations by analyzing performance data, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing strategies to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and improve overall operational performance.
  • Crew Management. Overseeing the recruitment, training, and performance management of maritime personnel, including captains, crew members, and other staff.
  • Stakeholder Relations. Building and maintaining relationships with relevant stakeholders, such as regulatory authorities, industry organizations, port authorities, and other maritime partners. Representing the organization in industry forums and conferences.
  • Environmental Sustainability. Promoting environmental stewardship by implementing and adhering to sustainable practices in marine operations. This may include reducing emissions, minimizing waste generation, and adopting environmentally friendly technologies.
  • Budgeting and Financial Management. Developing and managing the marine operations budget, including forecasting expenses, monitoring costs, and implementing cost control measures to ensure financial sustainability.
  • Crisis Management. Leading and coordinating crisis response efforts in the event of maritime incidents, accidents, or other emergencies. Collaborating with relevant authorities and stakeholders to mitigate risks and minimize potential damages.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Maritime Studies. Master degree will be considered an advantage
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language written and verbal
  • Ability to use modern computer software
  • At least 7-years’ experience in Maritime/Cruising Industry, including progressively responsible roles in marine operations, fleet management, or related areas. Experience in leadership and management positions is highly desirable.

Purchasing Coordinator

POSITION: PURCHASING COORDINATOR

Job Summary:
As a Purchasing Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in executing and overseeing the procurement process for catering, spare parts, and various supplies for our fleet. Reporting to the CFO, you will ensure timely and cost-effective supply, negotiate with suppliers, and contribute to cost reduction initiatives.

 

DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Execute and monitor procurement for spare parts, and marine supplies.
  • Analyze requisitions, control quantities, and compare orders for pricing, quantity, and quality.
  • Ensure timely and cost-effective supply of ships.
  • Communicate and negotiate with suppliers, checking pricing and invoicing.
  • Research and evaluate new suppliers, managing the Request for Proposal (RFP) process.
  • Contribute to cost reduction initiatives, monitored annually.
  • Coordinate bunkering operations, ensuring timely and proper delivery
  • Establish regular inventory checks with monthly or weekly requisitions for expenses control and improvement.
  • Guide suppliers, traders, and shipyards through custom clearance, invoicing, payment procedures, and contract negotiations; ensure completion of delivery and approve supplier invoices.
  • Coordinate repairs and maintenance for Technical and Marine departments.
  • Monitor and establish processes for the purchasing cycle.
  • Organize and oversee the purchasing of ropes, safety equipment, etc., implementing bulk orders to minimize forwarding expenses.
  • Coordinate requisition processes through ISM procedure.
  • Implement crew training and familiarization procedures for officers.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain/Economics/Business.
  • Excellent written and verbal English language skills.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a Purchasing Dept. in Shipping.
  • Ability to use modern computer software

Cruise Coordinator

POSITION: CRUISE COORDINATOR
REPORTING TO: HOSPITALITY MANAGER

Variety Cruises is a 360 vertically integrated small ship operator creating, operating, distributing, and delivering unforgettable experiences for our customers. VC operates in 13 destinations, including Greece, Tahiti & the Seychelles.

 

DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Responsible for the wellbeing of the guests
  • To be actively involved to the overall success of the cruise experience
  • Preparation of cruise material ahead of cruise and in-depth learning of the ports visited
  • Welcoming guests and assisting in their cabin accommodation and during embarkation/disembarkation procedures
  • Presentation of our Captain and Crew during the welcoming briefing, the lifeboat drill demonstration, the life on board and ashore topics
  • Planning/Conducting and supervising every day’s detailed program
  • Information and presentation of the ports of call (soft daily lectures, power point etc)
  • Excursions (promotion, booking, supervision, invoicing) and other booking arrangements when occurring
  • Reporting daily to Hospitality Manager and forwarding detailed weekly reports and shore excursion settlements
  • Promoting company’s cruise programs and the benefits of repeater guests
  • Overall striving to deliver an excellent cruise experience

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism or History – Archaeology or similar
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language written and verbal
  • Additional language will be an asset (French – Spanish – German)
  • Ability to use modern computer software
  • At least 2-3 years’ experience in similar guest-oriented positions preferably at sea (river or small ship cruises) or previous experience as tour leaders on escorted multi day group land tours
  • Ability to travel
